JUKKENDO PROGRAM

Jukkendo is a comprehensive style of mixed martial arts created from both Jigoro Kano’s original self-defense Judo and Mitsyo Maedas MMA style Judo/Jiu-Jitsu. This was the original fighting method that allowed Mitsuyo Maeda to remain undefeated in thousands of international fights against many opponents twice his size. Sensei Bunasawa has incorporated different combination of strikes, throws, take-downs, joint locks and submissions allowing Jukkendo to be utilized against all striking and grappling styles.

This program is great for anyone looking to do competitive mma, improve their stand up and ground technique or learn self-defense for protection. The Jukkendo class begins at 6:00 pm Tuesdays & Fridays and is open to all ages.

History

Jukkendo is an innovative mixture of Jigaro Kano Judo, Mitsuyo Maeda Jiu-Jitsu and various combat striking techniques that are commonly used in today's fighting arenas. The legendary Mitsuyo Maeda, undefeated in over 2,000 fights and known as "Toughest Man Who Ever Lived " traveled the globe in the early 1900's fighting competitors to prove his fighting style was the best. Upon his travels, he encountered the young Carlos Gracie and agreed to teach him this art of fighting. It would later be modified, renamed by the Gracie's and know to the world as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ).

Maeda (aka) "Conde Koma" was a professor at the prestigious Waseda University before his travels around the globe. He was hand selected by Kano to spread his contemporary style of Japanese sports Judo. Needing money to survive he relied on prized fights to make ends meet. Limited by the rules in the various fighting styles, Maeda decided to compete in "catch as catch can" or no rule competitions. Over the years he applied different styles of fighting on many large and small sized opponents, never suffering a single defeat in thousands of bouts. He became the "Godfather of MMA" and his legacy and fighting style have been studied, brought back to life and perfected by Sensei Nori Bunasawa. Sensei Bunasawa (9th dan) Waseda University student under Yoshimi Osawa, (Kodokan 10th dan) has dedicated his life to perfecting the art of combat by including all the necessary techniques that have been proven successful by Maeda and many of today's champions. He is a former Japanese judo champion, world team member, U.S world team coach and the founder of "Jukkendo" Maeda stlye Judo/Jiu-Jitsu/MMA.
